MY PRAYERS HAVE CHANGED
My prayers began, I was so young, they were so simple, that is true.
Then needs did change and so I pray for things to help me through the day.
I must admit they now seem trite, to ask my Lord for shining bike.
But as I grew so did my prayers and now I pray for daily cares.
My prayers of thanks sound much like this, I thank my God for quiet bliss.
They also may include a sigh, for pantry items I need to buy.
I now look at my life anew, the “things” I need are now so few.
But each one is a treasure bright, to meet my needs both day and night.
My prayers are simple, I believe, a phone that rings it’s just for me.
The doorbell rings, I sit up straight, to welcome loved ones, I just ate.
The stories I have told before, yet friends still enter through my door.
With outstretched arms I know they care, it’s time for us to sit and share.
They bring me news, I did not know, they even laugh, though I am slow.
Sometimes I ask them to repeat, my hearing now is much deplete.
I also know my sight is less, but I can always see my guest.
A hug, a kiss now means so much, I treasure greatly their final touch.
I lay my head down longing sleep, I thank God that my prayers are deep.
As I recount the blessings full, each one a gift, in weal or woe
I close my eyes in peaceful rest, I know God gives me what is best.
The new day dawns, my eyes are bright. It just might be of heaven’s sight.
